Aguas Calientes
Guatemala
2019
Jocelyn Akwaba Matignon's artistic work has been inspired by the Mayan cosmogony for several years. It was therefore important for him to paint in the Mayan world in order to immerse himself in the culture, the sensitivity, the vibration, the people, the place, etc. He therefore spent three months in 2017 in Guatemala, in an artistic residence in the village of SAN ANTONIO AGUAS CALIENTES, producing about fifteen canvases and forty drawings on paper. On a technical level, he was able to use elements such as volcanic ash, the colours of the walls of the houses and on a symbolic level, all the richness of the Mayan world in its daily life and spirituality.
The paintings were exhibited in 2019 at the Spanish Cooperation in Antigua, Guatemala
