As part of a two-week residency at the Brandywine Workshop and Archives in Philadelphia, Guadeloupean artist Jocelyn Akwaba Matignon undertook a research and creation project focused on lithography, exploring the expressive possibilities of this printmaking technique. This immersion in a world-renowned studio allowed him to enhance his expertise, experiment with new methods, and refine his skills in lithographic art, benefiting from ongoing dialogue with master printers and the Brandywine team.
During this period, the artist initiated a series of original works, inspired by his recurring themes – memory, transmission, and cultural hybridity – while integrating the technical specificities and constraints of plate lithography. This residency was a time of intense creation and artistic cross-pollination, offering him the opportunity to anchor his symbolic universe in a medium he wishes to continue exploring.
